Map of our hike. We parked at the South edge then walked out and back, admiring the fall colours and the splendid view.
The drive up was scenic.
The fall colours were great.
More fall colours.
Approaching the hills (yes, part of the Niagara Escarpment)
This communication tower is actually visible from John & Shirley's place.
Our journey takes us on smaller and smaller roads.
I like the canopy over the road.
More fall colours, more canopy.
The sun really sets off these colours nicely.
Approaching Skinner's Bluff. In a few minutes we'll be walking along that edge.
I stepped out of the car for this one. (Notice the colours are richer without the window glass in the way.)
Up above, looking down. I like the look of the fields.
Approaching the first good lookout.
John, at the first good lookout.
This rock sticks out from the rest of the woods and offers a great view. (Looking NNE)
Doug (with Graeme), and John, enjoying the view from the rock.
Further North, a view of the marsh below the escarpment and White Cloud Island in the distance.
A bit further on. This was a nice little lookout. There is a plaque here (see next image).
The Bruce Trail Association's "Skinner's Bluff" info-plaque.
Doug ("Dad") and Graeme
A distant view of cows grazing in the fields below, the Escarpment continues across Colpoy's Bay.
Zooming in a bit, you can see the cows in the field below.
This whole trail is littered with outcroppings like this one where you're actually standing out over a big drop.
This is the view from our turn-around point. (looking NW)
And again, looking NE.
John, at the edge. (should have used fill-flash)
The view to the West, down Colpoy's Bay toward Wiarton.
Here's John on the outcropping in the previous photo.
The view from the previous photo's outcropping, looking back at the camera's location from the previous few photos.
John and a bit of Jenn are visible at the lookout / outcropping.
A general scenery shot to show the fields, in the flatland below the escarpment with Colpoy's Bay and more escarpment in the background.
Jenn, John, and Graeme have a snack at the turn-around point.
John's turn to carry Graeme now, as we head back.
An over-the-shoulder shot of Shirley.
The mushrooms are hidden in the nice fall colours.
Happy Grandparents.
More views of the marsh.
Jenn finds a curious hollow tree.
Passing one of the lookouts again, the clouds make for an interesting light texture.
John, Shirley, Graeme, and Jenn.
I love the sunlight in this shot. The clouds were moving quickly, so I took a bunch of photos and this was the nicest of the group.
The bright sun really highlights the dead trees down in the swamp.
A "Graeme is doing something cute, better get a picture" shot.
One of the few views into the woods, instead of out over the water.
Stitched panorama view of the first lookout, as we pass it on our way back.
Textured rock along the trail. Water worn?
This massive tree was split by forces unknown. One enormous branch fell to the right, one to the left.
Back where we left the car, Graeme has *just* fallen asleep. (And won't be happy when we take him out of the carrier to put him in the car seat.)
Driving back, John takes a detour to show us this great view.
Fall colours as we drive down the escarpment...
...and out onto the flats below, as we return to Owen Sound. Thus endith our hike for today.
