Here is our path (clockwise) following trails (the Bruce Trail at times), starting and ending at Rockcliffe Rd.
And we're off! Graeme in the lead, with Ailish and Keaghan close behind and Catriona in the rear.
Jenn and Kyra start down the hill to catch up with the kids.
I couldn't get a smile out of Catriona early on, although later she was literally dancing for the camera.
We thought this was an eagle or hawk from its shape, but the red head clearly says vulture. (with white wings?)
The first of many rivers.
We found many of these clusters of worms, visible under water in several of the streams we passed. Any ideas?
Ailish (pre mud).
Keaghan gets a closer look.
Catriona loved this hike. Sometimes she held hands. Sometimes she walked with the parents. Sometimes she ran with the other kids. But she never complained!
The Alasdair, seen here in his natural habitat, crouches, waiting for his prey.
The hunt was successful. The Alasdair consumes voraciously.
What 4-6 year old can resist a muddy stream?
Here Graeme, you might want this. Thanks Ailish.
Typically seen on forest floors, the Alasdair can also quite ably climb angled trees.
The kids took turns running up a ramp and jumping off.
Airborne Ailish
Lead on, Catriona.
At the bottom of the hill, far below the train tracks, a culvert from 1911 provides good mud for Graeme and Keaghan.
Jenn plays troll to Catriona's billy goat.
Or rather, makes sure she can cross the 6 ft. board without falling.
This photos really illustrates the look of the woods (and streams) for today's hike.
Graeme ran to jump the stream then stopped at the last moment and jumped UP, landing right in the middle of the water. It was awesome!
Catriona is now happy as can be. Here she's giving us a great smile... and...
... here she's dancing for the camera, as the boys run ahead.
Let's see.... sticks... check... dirt... check. Let's dig!
A train? Near here? How can I tell, you ask? I can see its tracks. (it was that kind of day)
Another shot of Catriona being cute.
Our hike is done. Lasting about 2.25 hours and 2.25 km (much of that mucking in rivers), we had a great outting.
