Today we went into the hospital to have a baby! Here are the last photos of Jenn before we headed out.

7 December 2002

It's been a while since our last update. B-minus-3 days (or 5), and counting. Our due date is Tuesday, or Friday (depending on if you trust the doctor or the ultrasound tech. So soon. We are officially in the "they don't know what's about to hit them, do they?" stage.

Tonight we had supper with Warren and Charlene. These photos are from afterwards, at their place. (the others are here)

10 November 2002 - The Crib

We picked up our crib this week, some assembly required.

9 November 2002

Our second prenatal class, which was supposed to be today, was canceled. (to be rescheduled) Here is a photo of Jenn by the window. Some people have described her as not being as large as they'd expect for 8 months. I think they haven't been looking from the right angle. Jenn says her waist line is currently 41 inches. <start dramatic James Bond voice>And Counting<end dramatic James Bond voice>

31 October 2002 - Halloween

Today Jenn was expecting a pot luck lunch at work. Surprise! Her coworkers threw her a baby shower. Jenn was stunned. I (Doug) wish I could have been there to see the look on her face. Here are some photos of the fantastic gifts she received.

These were from Heather and Bondi Koncz. The hat, booties, and blanket were knit by Heather.

This porcelain box was from Doris and Denise. Someone suggested it would make a nice box to put the baby's teeth in.

These were a group gift from all of Jenn's coworkers.

19 October 2002

Yesterday we went for the second ultrasound. Unfortunately, we didn't think to ask for printouts of the images until after we'd left. There is news, however. The ultrasound tech was reasonably sure that the baby in question... is... is......<dramatic pause> a boy! This isn't a certainty. We saw something in the region of the crotch which seemed to be a scrotum. But, because the view was from behind, we didn't actually see a penis. And because of this, the technician couldn't say for sure, but she did make a point of mentioning that "female genitals don't normally stick out that far".

Let the keyword-based parental control censor/filters at that paragraph!

The current estimated weight is 3.9 lbs, so we're on track for an (also estimated) 7-8 pound baby. Jenn's revised due date is December 13th according to the ultrasound tech.

Two months to go. Jenn is resting by the window at the cottage over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Doug recorded the baby's heartbeat using his camera in movie mode. The audio track was then separated and cleaned up a little by his coworker Steve. (Note: WindowsMediaPlayer versions lower than 8 have trouble playing this AVI. Try using Quicktime instead.)

Jenn was talking to Julie on the phone last night. Julie has just given birth to Daniel, so we had much to talk about.

Here are our first baby photos...(and the baby seems to have its mother's nose - thank goodness :-)

The ultrasound radiologist tells us that the baby's size suggests it is 16 weeks and 5 days old. This puts the ETA on December 20th. Since Jenn didn't want to know the sex (and for the record, Doug did) this information was not disclosed, although when Doug asked if she had seen enough detail to reveal the sex, her reply was "no comment".
